We'll primarily be spreading dirt and packing soil. Bring work gloves and wear boots and long pants, but we will provide the tools--and pizza and drinks!
We are back on Trough this Month, finishing up Phase 1 of our reroute.
We will meet at the Timberview lot at 9am and work until about 1pm. Wear sturdy shoes, long pants and layers to deal with the temperature. bring gloves if you have them and water, we will provide the tools and snacks. Thanks to Just the Right Gear, we will have a picnic at the end of the trailwork day!

Cross your fingers that the snow will be gone and the ground won’t be sloppy! We will back to finish this phase of the Trough reroute, which is already getting rave reviews.

DO you want to get more involved with our trail work? We will have our first Trails Committee meeting to discuss a plan for the new year! The goal of is to get a set schedule of large volunteer days, work towards getting more people trained to be crew leaders and expand our ability to work on multiple projects. So please come out with your ideas of what you’d like to see, but be prepared to shoulder some of the effort.
The meeting will be in the side room at Twisted Track Brewery. Please email me to confirm your attendance as space is limited to 12-15 people or just email with any questions you may have.
UPDATE: We are a GO for tomorrow! It will be chilly at 9am, but we will warm up quick.
We are planning our first work day of 2026 on Sunday, January 18th to do all the needed finish work on the Trough re-route (Matt should have made the final connection and completed the rough shaping by then). The plan is to meet at the Timberview Lot (NOT the Bennett Springs side) at 9am on Sunday. It will be cold, so I don't need to tell you to wear pants or boots, but don't forget to bring water and work gloves. If it is raining or snowing, work will be cancelled. Look at our social media for confirmation (If you have come to a work day before, I will also send an email).
We will have all the tools and snacks. Plan to be out for about 3-4 hours so dress in layers. Also, the parking is limited, so if you can carpool (or meet a friend at the Hanging Rock Trailhead), please do.
DEC 6th Update - WE are still planning to go! The snow is melting quickly, and although it won’t be all gone where we are working tomorrow, we should be able to do what we need to do. Hope to see you there!

Join us for trail work on our reoute of Trough Trail. Over the course of the winter, we will be working to eliminate the worst of the eroded part of the trail. Matt King has been using our mini-excavator to cut the bench, and we will be working to finish the tread to make it great in both directions.
We will meet at the Timberview parking lot at 9am. If you know someone who is coming, it would be great to car pool as parking is limited. (you could even meet at the Hanging Rock trailhead behind Sycamore Station and ride together from there). Wear boots and bring water and gloves, we will provide tools and snacks.
Even if you haven’t done trail work before, this will be a great introduction as much of the heavy work has been completed by the machine!
On November 22nd, we will be heading to Douthat State Park for some beautiful late fall riding. If you haven’t been there, Douthat is one of the original State Parks in VA and still showcases the work of the Civilian Conservation Corps. The trails are beautiful, but there is certainly more elevation to be had there then in Roanoke!
We will meet at the Camp Malone shelter parking area (second left after the Ranger Station) at 11am and break into different ride groups, ranging from a easier paced 2-hour ride to a harder 3-hour ride. The trails aren’t technical, but there is significant climbing involved in any ride there.
There is a day use fee that you will need to pay at the ranger station. We will be hanging out at the picnic shelter post ride, so feel free to bring something to share.
As always, any questions, feel free to email me.
Join us for a no drop tour of the new trails on Mil! We will meet at 11am at the Roanoke Mountain Bike Alliance Tent at GO Fest and ride over to Mill. You’ll need your own bike and helmet, and bring water.

We will heading to the GW National Forest for some mix of new and old school trails! We will be meeting at the Wild Oak Trailhead at 10am on Saturday, October 4th and break into groups based on abilities and interests. Will we ride Lookout? Wolfe? Narrowback? Maybe some combination? All things are on the table!
If you want to go and camp the night before (the trailhead is 2 hours from Roanoke), there are free, dispersed camping spots along Tillman Road and the Stokesville Campground is always an option.
Join us as we ride the Brush Mountain Trails in Blacksburg! We’ll have rides of varying distances and abilities. The one thing we can’t avoid is going up hill. Afterwards we’ll go to Rising Silo Brewery for food and libations. We hope you can join us!
